Oola Find Balance in an Unbalanced World

I was given a copy of Oola Find Balance in an Unbalanced World for Women in exchange for writing a blog post about it!

 

I had just recently finished their original book Oola Find Balance in an Unbalanced World.

 

This book came at a really good time for me.

At the beginning of this year, I was really fired up and ready to get my business to the next level and get back to blogging on a regular basis.  I sat down, and had everything scheduled and written in my planner.  I was going to CRUSH this year!  And then…. my husband ended up getting a new job and we found out we are pregnant with #6!

That zapped my motivation, determination and energy.

I’ve been so tired that I can barely take care of the five I have.  So picking them all up from school has required a two hour nap on the couch and my eleven year old has been starting dinner before Dad gets home (thank goodness for freezer meals!)  Now that I am feeling better, I feel like I have to play “catch-up.”  The house is a wreck and laundry is backed up.  Instead of crushing this year and getting my business closer to where I want it to be and getting back to blogging, my focus has changed.  Those things are still important to me and I’m still going to go after them, but I realize that God has me in a different season, so my time line is going to look much different than I had planned and anticipated.

This book has helped me prioritize what I need to focus on.  Oola is based on 7 “Fs;” Faith, Family, Field, Fun, Finances, Fitness and Friends.  I really like the Oola Wheel questions in the back of the book, but they do have a more simplified version online, here.  After they describe and share stories of each of the “Fs,” the book dives into Oola Blockers and Accelerators.  Blockers include: fear, guilt, anger, self-sabotage, laziness, envy and focus.  Accelerators are: gratitude, love, discipline, integrity, passion, humility and wisdom.  Every section in this book includes two personal testimonies from ladies dealing with each subject.

I found this book to be very inspirational and easy to relate to.  It helps put you on a path so that it’s easy to take the first step and get started, which is oftentimes the hardest part.

My New “New Years Resolutions”

Do you guys remember a couple of months ago, I decided to start making my New Years resolutions in August?  I wrote my reasoning in this post here.

I am sort of entering a new season of life.  I only have one child with me at home during the day!  This has been a big adjustment for both of us!  😉

 

Here are my goals for the rest of the year:

Faith

  1. Attend Bible Study
  2. Read at least 4 religious books
  3. Help launch a new program at Church!
  4. Continue to tithe and prepare meals for families with newborns and sick mommies.

Marriage

I am not so good at making sure this one gets done.  It seems like this is the one that always gets pushed to the bottom of the list!  🙁

  1. Read 2 books on marriage
  2. Go on a monthly date (even if it’s just at home after the kids go to bed)
  3. Each make a list and talk about 10 things that make us feel loved.

Parenting

  1. Read 2 parenting books
  2. Take 2 kids on a 1-1 date per month
  3. Hug, kiss, & look my kids in the eyes and tell them I love them everyday

Me

  1. Get into a routine where I have myself taken care of before the children wake up (Bible Study, exercise, showered).
  2. Have at least 30 minutes of quiet reading 5x/week.
  3. Take a detox bath 2-4 times a month.
  4. Read 1 book that’s just for me!

Business

  1. Consistently post a blog post 3-4 times a week.
  2. Read 3 business books.
  3. Complete 10 follow ups per week.
  4. Continue actively participating in my networking group.

House

  1. Choose 1 day/week to focus on organization for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Accomplish the “Chore of the day.”
  3. Help the children do a better job and be more productive during chore time.

My Plan

While I know this is going to need some tweaking, this is what I have in mind to help accomplish my goals:

  1. Wake early enough (thank you Make Over Your Mornings Course for helping me do this!)  to do my Bible Study, exercise & shower before the kids are awake and dressed.
  2. Get everyone off to school.
  3. Have some quality time with the little one still at home.
  4. Hopefully snag in 30 minutes (while it may not be all at once) to organize.
  5. Lunch
  6. Put little one down for a nap.
  7. During nap time: read, work on “Chore of the Day,” and business matters each for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Pick up the kids from school.
  9. Get home, go through papers, talk to the kids, start dinner
  10. Be present and ACTIVE during chore time (I’ve noticed that even if I’m working on business stuff (that I’m sitting down for) the kids do not work as hard and take longer to do their chores.  It is my intention to help each child complete a chore (& talk) each day.  This will also give me the opportunity to refine their cleaning skills and knowledge!  😉
  11. Extra curricular activities.
  12. Kids in bed
  13. Work on the house &/or business for an hour.
  14. Get to bed on time because the success of my mornings starts the night before!  😉
  15. Dates will happen on the weekends

A little about the Make Over Your Mornings Course (affilate link):  It’s amazing.  I’ve already gone through it and was sad when I finished because I really enjoyed it.  It is on sale all day August 25th for only $10!  It’s so awesome and a perfect time to implement because of the new school year and upcoming seasonal changes!  This is the last time it will be on sale this year!

I also got an Erin Condren (affilate link) planner last year and kind of closed my eyes when I hit the checkout button because it’s a little pricy in my book!  However, I LOVE it, it’s the BEST. PLANNER. EVER!  I’ve already started picking my next one out.  It’s kind of driving me crazy with all the calendars that are coming home from school and I can only put in half the school year because my current planner only goes through December 2015.  I’m probably going to be ordering my next one in the next day or too!

New Year Planning

I have been planning for the New Year!

My Goals:

I did a horrible job at my goals last year.  I think I was a little overzealous, plus I had no idea that God would place me on a different path.  I’m going to try and be more realistic this year.

 

Faith:

  1. Memorize 6 scriptures
  2. Participate in at least two Bible Studies
  3. Continue to give
  4. Read a yearly devotional and read at least four other religious books.

 

Family: 

  1. Read and pray with kids 5x/week
  2. Each kid gets a monthly “date” with Mom or Dad
  3. Have a monthly game night
  4. Sit down as a family to eat dinner at least 4x/week
  5. Monthly date with my husband
  6. Read Moments with You: Daily Connections for Couples (going to try this again!)
  7. Read at least two marriage books.

 

Personal:

  1. Have quiet time 5x/week
  2. Take weekly baths
  3. Exercise, starting with 1-2x/week working up to 3-4x/week
  4. Drink lemon/honey water daily

 

Finances:

  1. Pay off credit card
  2. Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University DVD Home Study Kit (9 Week Course) 2012 Release (going to try this again)
  3. The Legacy Journey DVD Home Study Kit (I hope I can get to this this year.)
  4. Have a fully funded 6 month savings

 

Oils:

  1. Post on FB at least 4x/week
  2. Follow up with 10-15 people a week
  3. Hold at least 6 classes or Make N’ Takes
  4. Be Gold rank

 

House:

  1. Do Motivated Mom’s 5x/week

 

Blog:

I have been a little discouraged when it’s come to my blog.  It’s not growing like I’d like and I’m not making any money at all.  I know I put it on the back burner after I started the oils.  I have a feeling that is going to stay the same this year.  I am getting frustrated because I don’t feel like I’m reaching people or really helping.  However, I’m not ready to totally walk away either.  I would like to hear from people about what they would like to see posted on the blog.  So until I feel called to focus more on the blog or start hearing from readers, I will try to post 2-4 times a week.  I am planning on doing a weekly oil post, switching Thankful Thursday to Gratituesday, doing a weekly post on the monthly Parenting Challenge, and every once in a while another post.  As always, please feel free to contact me and let me know if you have any questions and/or any suggestions on what you’d like me to post.
