Materials

  • clip art, printed out, laminated and cut of summer and not summer items (I used )
  • real items of summer/not summer things (swimsuit, sunscreen, sunglasses, mittens, scarf, etc)
  • Summer and Not Summer signs

Procedure

  1. get out the summer chart () and have a class discussion about what they see in the poster
  2. ask the children to guess what season the chart is depicting
  3. listen to song #22 on
  4. read
  5. place the Summer and Not Summer signs on the floor, leaving lots of space between and underneath
  6. give an item and/or card to each student, have them take turns telling what item they have, placing it under the correct sign and a short explanation as to why they put it there
  7. repeat #6 until every child has had a turn
  8. if there are items/picture cards left, categorize them together as a class
  9. review things/activities/etc that we attribute to summer
