Transitions 4

Whining and complaining can sometimes be diminished with how transitions are handled.

What

What are transitions?

Transitions are the little pieces of time when changing from one activity to another.

As adults, we often know how much time we have to complete an activity. We know that we will need to leave in five minutes or that dinner will be ready in fifteen minutes. We can then decide how best to use the time to prepare for the next activity.

Children do not naturally have this luxury.

Challenges

Week 1: Read the entire post by going over to I Can Teach My Child. Try to implement this suggestion before you leave the house each time. Set an alarm reminder or place notes around the house to remind you. Remember to give them a 5 minute warning before they need to pick up or stop the activity!

Week 2: How did last week go? Take time to reflect and make adjustments if needed. Do you need another week to practice the above? Continue implementing the above and take note of other times when you need to implement this strategy. Make a list and add to it all week!

Week 3: How did last week go? Get your list. Continue Week 1 challenge and add one other transition time from your list! Good luck!

Week 4: How did last week go? Get your list. Continue Week 2 & 3 challenges and add one other transition time from your list! Good luck!
