The Seasons of Our Apple Trees

Materials: big light blue construction paper that is folded into fourths with the students brown hand print at the bottom of each section (do the tree trunk hand prints the day before); green, pink, red, white, orange tempra paint; forks; pencils, sponges

  1. do the brown tree trunks the day before
  2. read The Season’s of Arnold’s Apple Tree by Gail Gibbons
  3. show the children the model of the art project
  4. pass out each student’s paper
  5. sponge paint green onto two tree trunks on the model
  6. instruct the students to do the same on their paper
  7. sponge paint yellow onto the third tree trunk on the model
  8. instruct the students to do the same on their paper
  9. sponge paint white paint onto the last tree on the model
  10. instruct the students to do the same on their paper
  11. on the spring tree, use a fork and dab pink and white blossoms onto the model
  12. instruct the students to do the same on their paper
  13. on the summer or fall tree, use your finger to paint apples onto the model
  14. instruct the students to do the same on their paper
  15. glue the spring label onto the model
  16. pass out the label
  17. instruct the students to do the same
  18. glue the summer label onto the model
  19. pass out the label
  20. instruct the students to do the same
  21. glue the autumn label onto the model
  22. pass out the label
  23. instruct the students to do the same
  24. glue the winter label onto the model
  25. pass out the label
  26. instruct the students to do the same
  27. have the students lay their picture out to dry

I did this with my son’s Kindergarten class and had them write the seasons instead of giving them labels. You can also use address labels and have them pre-printed & just have the children stick them on their paper!
