Seeing
For this thematic unit, I take two days to focus on each sense. I will combine two days in one post.

Day One
Materials
- copy of page 41 for each child to take home
- empty toilet paper roll
Instructions
- play song #17 & 18 on
- read pages 10-15 in
- tell the students that sometimes our eyes can play tricks on us
- read page 41 in and do the experiment as a class; pass around the empty toilet paper roll and let every child have a turn
- review the 5 senses

Day Two
Materials
- homemade “Senses” book (1/child)
- white board & markers
- crayons
- pencils
Instructions
- play song #17 & 18 on
- read
- ask the children to share things that they like to look at
- ask one child at a time, draw their idea on the board and label it with one word
- continue step #4 until each child has had a turn
- get out the homemade “Senses” book and model writing your name on the front
- pass out the books and instruct the students to do the same
- open the model book to the sight page and model drawing and labeling one item from the white board in the book
- when each child is done, have them come up and show you their page, if what they wrote is illegible, then rewrite it on the page for them
- keep the books for the next time
- read and review the 5 senses
