Pumpkin Art

Thank you “that artist woman” for the picture! (Mine got smashed and doesn’t look pretty, although mine never even looked close to this good!)

Materials

  • paint shirts
  • paintbrushes
  • newspaper

Procedure

  1. read and
  2. have the children put on paint shirts
  3. show the model pumpkin
  4. model taking a brown lunch sack and filling it with crumpled newspaper and using the green pipe cleaner to wrap around to make the stem
  5. pass out the materials and have the students do the same, they will probably need help with the pipe cleaners, make sure to tell them to be gentle with the bags because they can tear easily
  6. model how to paint the pumpkin orange, show how to get into the crevices, make sure to instruct them to only paint under the pipe cleaner
  7. pass out materials and have the students paint their pumpkins
  8. when the children are done, set the pumpkins aside to dry, and have the students clean out their paint brushes, wipe up their table, put the paint shirts away and throw away any trash
  9. read
