Coupon Lesson

I have been using coupons for over a year and I am still learning!

Scenario

I went to Walmart with my Walgreen’s ad for them to price match the Clean & Clear body washes, buy one get one free.  Then I had the above coupons for buy one get one, so I was thinking that I could get six body washes for free.  I did scan the cashiers and decided to get in a line that I thought the cashier looked coupon friendly.  There was no one behind me, but an older gentleman came up and asked if he could ring me up, I didn’t want to be rude, so I let him.  He priced matched the body washes with no problem, he rang up three at $2.99 and two at $3.  When I handed him my coupons he proceeded to take off two $3 and one $2.99.  By the time he did this, there was a line behind me, so I decided to just go right to customer service.

Customer Service

They listened to my scenario at customer service and went to get the coupons.  After they researched the situation, another lady came up to me and said that they do not allow BOGO coupons with a BOGO sale.  I do not shop at Walmart that often, so I am not very comfortable with their coupon policy and I didn’t have a copy of their policy with me.  I just returned the merchandise and they gave me back my coupons and money!

Lesson Learned

I learned that I always need to brush up on the store’s coupon policy before I go (especially if I don’t usually shop there) and make sure I have a copy of their policy with me!  After looking at their policy, it could be interpreted a few ways.  I do not know if when they price match, if they consider that a coupon or not.  I do not see in their policy that they do not accept BOGO coupons with a BOGO sale.  I guess they could have interpreted as the price match as being a coupon and then I would have had two coupons per item, but I’m not really sure.  I don’t think that even if I had the coupon policy in my pocket that I would have enough guts to argue.  I probably would have done the same thing and just asked for a refund!

That’s the best way to learn a lesson. I keep learning to never leave home without my coupons.

I know, but then there are those trips where I think, I’m just getting these things and I don’t want to mess with my big box! Inevitably there is always a good deal or a problem and I wish I would have just brought it! 🙂
