Dental Intro
After teaching about nutrition and food groups, I liked to follow up that study with a couple of lessons on Dental Health. There are so many cool activities to do when it comes to dental health, however, I shorten the activities because I never had enough time.
Materials
- copies of a tooth on yellow construction paper
- tooth brushes for each child
- white paint
- paint shirts
- pencils
Procedure
- read
- put up the model yellow tooth paper
- model proper brushing technique (circles) with white paint on a toothbrush
- pass out the materials to the children to complete “brushing” their tooth
- have the children write their name at the bottom of the page before setting it aside to dry
- read

Other Activities
- have a dentist or dental hygienist come and visit
- graph how many children have lost teeth and how many they have lost
- do experiment where you stick a raw egg in vinegar (the egg represents the tooth and the vinegar represents the acid caused by plaque eating the sugar left on our teeth from eating), leave it in there overnight, take the egg out and discuss the changes and other observations
