Procedure

  1. listen to two songs on
  2. read
  3. read
  4. ask questions to check for understanding
  5. have each child practice “Stop, Drop and Roll” when you put the fabric flame on them
  6. read the paper book to the children
  7. have them return to their seats and color/complete the book to take home with them
  8. ask the children to share their books with their family and to talk about Fire Safety and have a fire drill
  9. have a practice fire drill at school
  10. (throughout the week, randomly place the fabric flame on the students and have them practice “Stop, Drop, and Roll)

Important Note:

When I was younger, I was taught that if I was ever in a fire an needed to get out to crawl.  That is not correct.  You should be about door knob height (lower than the smoke, but above all the toxic gasses), so for most young children, that’s them standing up!
