Living With Less So Your Family Has More

Another great book by Jill Savage, founder of Hearts at Home. Since we’ve taken Financial Peace University, some of this was a review, however, she also has many other great ideas! I found this book to be very easy to read. I read this book by myself, because my husband just has way too much on his plate right now, however, the questions and prayer at the end of each chapter were great.

The opportunities to influence our children, enjoy our family and invest in these relationships present themselves just once in life. Xi
In general, a family that lives with less has to see relational investments as just as important as or even more important than financial investments. 12
Patience is one part self-control, one part endurance, and one part tolerance. 19
Kids need more than a present parent; they need an intentional parent. And intentionality takes an enormous amount of energy. 24
Parenting is the toughest job out there and over the course of raising a child there will be countless times we won’t have a clue as to how to handle a parenting challenge. 70
What would happen if we got up every morning and said, “God, you’ve given me so much. Please show me how to use my money, my possessions and my time for your purposes today.”? 79
A well-balanced plan will help you manage your money instead of dealing with the repercussions of letting your money manage you. 124
I intentionally read this book as we were moving. I know that when you move, it seems that you always need to run to the store for something. I wanted to be intentional about our spending. I also realized that the neighborhood that we were moving into was much different and probably has an overall different mindset about money. I wanted to make sure that I didn’t get “sucked” into a mindset/lifestyle we can’t afford. I’ve had a lot of people asking me lately what I’m planning on doing when all the kids are in school full time. Right now, I don’t know. I also, don’t really want to think about it too much, I want to spend my time being an intentional parent and savoring the moments of their youth. They grow up so fast, and I’m not ready for it! I may need to read this book again, when the kids switch schools and they start asking for stuff because their friends have it. I want to be an example of, you can have it all, just not all at the same time. And right now, I’m right where I want and need to be, because My Heart’s At Home!
