Diaper Bag Evolution

A week or so ago, I shared our experience with adding children to the family.  Since all of our children are close together, this has meant many evolutions of our diaper bags!

Our first diaper bag was very similar to

.  It was always jammed packed, because of course, being a new mom, I thought I needed the entire house and the kitchen sink to fit in there.  It was a pain to lug around and annoying to get anything out of just because I had packed so much stuff in it, it was like a scavenger hunt every time you needed to get something out of it.  Since this was our first time of being parents, we took it every where with us.

We kept pretty much the same diaper bag when our second came along, but I revamped it a bit.  I always kept diapers, wipes, extra change of clothes for both boys, snacks, bottle, sample size formula (that I got for free, just in case), pacifiers, a couple of books and some toys.  I think I also threw in a travel first aid kit and some

.  We still usually took the diaper bag everywhere.  However, if we were just making a quick trip into a store for just a couple of things, then we’d just leave it in the car.

Then came our little girl!  He had to have a pink diaper bag (plus not to mention, the black one had seen better days and was really falling apart)!  We had something vaguely similar to

By this time we had it filled like we did with the second child, but I hardly ever took it in with us.  I figured, if we needed it, then I could always run out to the car if I needed to.  However, if I was flying solo with the kids, then I would either put diapers and wipes in my purse, or put my wallet, etc in the diaper bag.

Now we have our fourth. For a little while we continued to use the pink bag (for a very short while we still had 3 in diapers).  However, when our fourth was just a few months old, we only had one in diapers!  So then I did a big overhaul.  I now use a clear bag (that our nursery mobile came in) and I have diapers, wipes, change of clothes, a pair of socks, pads, a travel first aid kid and a sippy cup (sometimes).    We have a bag of books that always stays in the car.  I also like to try and have an extra pair of pants, diapers, and wipes in the center console of the car, for those times when I forget to restock the diaper bag.  This diaper bag stays in the car almost all the time.

I “upgraded” my purse to a much larger size and I now always have wipes, diaper, and a pair of pants in my purse (which reminds me that I need to restock)!  😉
