Emotions: Anger
When I am teaching emotions, I make books like above for each child.
Materials
Emotions book that I make
I Was So Mad by Mercer Mayer
How I Feel Angry by Marcia Leonard
When Sophie Gets Angry-Really, Really Angry… by Molly Bang
crayons
pencil
Steps:
- read I Was So Mad by Mercer Meyer
- have a discussion about things/situations that make you mad/angry
- Role play how to deal with anger (teach the sentence: “I don’t like it when you ____, please stop.”)*
- give child their emotions book and have them write their name on it and turn to the angry page
- ask the children to show you their angry face
- draw an angry face, step by step in your book, pausing to give the child a chance to complete the same step in their book
- read How I Feel Angry by Marcia Leonard
- review how to deal with anger
- read other book if time
Scenarios
Here are some ideas for role playing scenarios:
took your toy without asking
pushed you
hit you
threw rocks at you
stuck out their tongue at you
called you a bad name
made fun of you
teased you
