Healthy vs. Unhealthy
The resources I have are a little out of date since they have changed the food pyramid to a plate! 🙂 Even when I taught, I had resources for the original food pyramid, so I just explained that how they show the information has changed, but the information is still the same.
Materials
- songs downloaded from dole5aday (scroll down to get all of the amazing songs, my students LOVED these songs)
- Healthy & Unhealthy Labels
- pictures of food
Procedure
- listen to two songs from www.dole5aday.com
- ready
- take out the food pictures, hold them up one at a time and have the students tell you what they are
- tell the students that you need their help to sort the food
- put the Healthy and Unhealthy labels on the floor about a foot apart
- pass out a food picture to each child
- call the students up individually, have them say what they have and put it under the correct label on the floor
- have the other students who are sitting at their desk give you a thumbs up or down if they agree or disagree
- repeat steps 7 & 8 until every child has put their food card on the floor
- ask the students what they should eat more of; if it’s alright to eat a few unhealthy foods or a lot
- pick up while listening to more songs
