Materials

• balloon
• red food coloring
• straw
• empty cup
• water
• eye dropper or funnel
• stethoscope
• wipe

Directions

1. Play song #4 on
2. Read
3. fill the balloon with red colored water (do not tie the balloon off)
4. explain that the balloon is like our heart
5. put the straw in the balloon and explain that it is like our veins
6. explain that the water is like our blood
7. point the straw to the empty cup and squeeze the balloon to make the water go up through the straw and into the empty cup
8. explain that when our heart pumps, it pumps the blood to other parts of our body
9. show them a couple of times
10. pass around the stethoscope and have the children find their heartbeat (wipe off the ear pieces after each child has used it)
11. read
