More Than Enough

More Than Enough by Dave Ramsey; I love, love, LOVE this book!  I don’t know if I just happen to read this when I really needed it or not, but this made a huge impact on my mindset!  This book really gave me a new outlook on life!  (Oh by the way, did I mention that I LOVE this book?!)

This book really made me realize that more money won’t make me happier; I need to learn to be happy with where I am!  Here are some of my favorite quotes about contentment from this book:

  • Contentment is found in character, not circumstances that are made better with money.  241
  • Contentment can be gathered again when we learn to slow down and count life’s simple pleasures.  We remember the old saying, “The happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything, they make the best of everything.”  Contentment comes when we develop an attitude of gratitude for the important things we do have in our lives… 248
  • Contentment is more than things, or stuff; it’s your ability to cope with and deal with your situation and circumstances.  254

This book really made me step back and look at my life.  It gave me the courage I needed to change the things I needed to change and was willing to change.  One quote that I really loved in the book and that was repeated often was Change is very hard and we change only when the pain of same is greater than the pain of change. 66.   I realized that I probably could have what I really want, but I’m not willing to give up what it would take in order to get it!  I hope this book speaks to you as much as it did to me!

I can relate to your realization that you could have what you want, but that you’re not willing to give up what it would take to get it. I would qualify for a Pell Grant, and could go back to school, finish my degree, and get a job. Then, we would have 2 incomes, and even with kids in daycare, would be making significantly more money than we’re making now. I willingly gave up having a career so that I could be a full-time mother and homemaker. Not a very glamorous occupation, but I’m sure it is where God wants me, and in the long run, I think my presence at home to the people I love will make a bigger difference to them than more money would.
