Summer Schedule 2013

2013-05-31 21.31.46Here is the schedule that I made up for the kids to look at.  Like all of our other routines/schedules, it is more of a sequence of events than a strict timetable.

The kids wake up and each are allowed to pick a 30 minute show to watch.

We get dressed, brush teeth & hair.

Reading time for 30 minutes.

Bedtime

Once a week the kids have swimming lessons.  There are also a few weeks when they have camps in the morning, so our afternoon schedule will stay the same.  My main goal this summer is to not have the TV on all day!  So if the kids aren’t doing a great job of reading or playing outside, that’s fine, for the most part.  During reading time they have to do quiet things and if they want to play inside during outside time, that’s fine, but TV is not an option during these times.  The first day was kind of hard, my oldest complained about being bored.  However, I think that we are already pretty acclimated to the schedule, and the kids really don’t need to even look at it anymore to know what’s coming next.

Want To Do List

When I first introduced the summer schedule, we also had a brainstorming session and I asked the kids what things they would like to do this summer.  I emphasized that just because it was on the list, doesn’t mean we’ll do it, but we will try.

Here is what they came up with:

go swimming

go camping

make S’mores

go to Texas Roadhouse

make M&M cookies

do the summer reading program through the public library

visit a farm

ride bikes

go fishing

go to the zoo

do the glow sticks in water experiment

school workbooks

chores

make crafts

eat hot dogs with buns (can’t tell they are missing the bread!)

dance

play board/card games

go to church camp

go to zoo school

go to swimming lessons

test fire alarms/smoke detectors

What does your summer schedule look like?
