Teaching: Christmas Nativity

I always liked to start my Christmas unit by having the children make a nativity.  I liked doing this first so that the nativities could be out in the hallway all month long!  🙂

My favorite nativity comes from the book

I also really like the Nativity Mobile from

.

Materials:

(or another book below)

and/or

big, brown grocery sacks

white cardstock

brown and gold yarn, cut up and mixed together to look like straw

crayons

scissors

glue

copy machine

Instructions

(have materials ready in advance, this usually took 2-3 days to do in class, so I read from a different Bible and read different books each day)

  1. read the story of Jesus’ birth from the Bible
  2. read a book about Jesus’ birth
  3. follow the directions from the craft book
  4. if time, read another book about Jesus’ birth as closure

We put out Kaitlyn’s nativity each year. I just love it!
